iPhone case — how to choose the right protection?
Best protection = MagSafe case with reinforced corners (Spigen, ESR, Pitaka) or a silicone/leather Apple case. Clear TPU cases under 200 Kč turn yellow after a year. For sportspeople or building sites, get a case with MIL-STD-810G certification (Otterbox). Combine with tempered glass (9H) — without glass, a case is only half the protection.

Why a case determines your phone's lifespan
A phone without a case will survive until the first drop off a table. Statistically, an iPhone without a case breaks within 6 months in 35% of cases (Squaretrade data). By contrast, a quality case with corner reinforcement can absorb a drop from 1.5 metres without a mark. A 600–1,500 Kč investment in a case can save you 5,000–15,000 Kč on replacing the back glass or display.
Three main case materials:
- Silicone — soft to the touch, good grip, moderate protection. Turns yellow over time (especially clear versions). Apple's silicone lasts for years without discolouring.
- TPU + polycarbonate — a combined case with a rigid plastic frame and a soft TPU interior. The best drop protection, often with MIL-STD certification.
- Leather (Apple FineWoven or genuine) — premium look, gradually develops a patina. Genuine leather lasts for years; FineWoven is more eco-friendly but wears out faster.
What is MIL-STD-810G certification
MIL-STD-810G is a military standard for durability testing. For cases, it means they have passed 26 tests simulating real-world conditions (drops, vibration, thermal shocks). Cases with this certification (Spigen Tough Armor, OtterBox Defender, UAG Pathfinder) are the safest choice for at-risk users — tradespeople, sportspeople, parents of young children.
Recommended brands by level of protection:
- Light protection — Apple silicone, ESR Classic Hybrid, Spigen Liquid Air. Understated look, protection against minor drops.
- Medium protection — Spigen Tough Armor, ESR Air Armor, Tech21 Evo Crystal. Corner cushioning, MIL-STD certification.
- Maximum protection — UAG Monarch, OtterBox Defender, Spigen Rugged Armor. For extreme conditions, bulkier size.
MagSafe compatibility — an important check
If you own an iPhone 12 or newer and use MagSafe accessories, buy only cases with integrated MagSafe magnets. Cases without magnets either don't hold MagSafe accessories at all or hold them weakly, and charging is slower. Apple, plus the Spigen Mag Armor and ESR HaloLock ranges, reliably support it.
Beware of cheap cases under 200 Kč
Cases from e-shops like Aliexpress often lack an inner lining, transferring impacts directly to the glass. Some are so thin that the camera sticks out of the case and gets scratched. Plus: the colours peel, the material swells, and after a month the case is unusable. A quality case starts at around 400 Kč.
Our tips based on your usage style:
- Office / everyday user — Apple silicone case with MagSafe (approx. 1,290 Kč) or Spigen Liquid Air (approx. 490 Kč).
- Active user / traveller — Spigen Tough Armor (approx. 690 Kč) or UAG Pathfinder (approx. 990 Kč).
- Demanding conditions / fieldwork — UAG Monarch (approx. 1,590 Kč) or OtterBox Defender (approx. 1,690 Kč).
- Premium look — Apple FineWoven Case (approx. 1,690 Kč) or genuine leather Native Union (approx. 1,990 Kč).
Always pair a case with tempered glass
A case protects the back and edges, but the display is the most expensive part of an iPhone (repairs from 6,000 to 15,000 Kč). 9H tempered glass costs 200–500 Kč, and at iLoveServis we install it for free at our selected stores when you buy it. The glass catches minor knocks and also protects Apple's oleophobic coating on the display underneath.
Our final tip
For most users, we recommend a combination: Spigen Tough Armor with MagSafe + 9H tempered glass. In total you invest under 1,000 Kč, and your iPhone is protected against the vast majority of real-world situations. At iLoveServis we have 70+ cases and screen protectors currently available to order at every store — you don't have to wait for delivery.
